In Pittsburgh, the Westinghouse Bulldogs delivered an unexpected and impressive performance in the City League playoffs, defeating the Perry Commodores with a staggering score of 68-0. This remarkable victory came despite the Bulldogs having only 11 players active for the game, following a suspension of the rest of the team for leaving the sideline during a previous game.
Coach Donta Green’s squad, stripped of 27 players due to the suspension, managed to dominate the field at Cupples Stadium. The Bulldogs featured nine regular offensive starters among the 11 players, and although they faced the challenge of limited personnel, they executed their game plan effectively.
Throughout the match, the Bulldogs occasionally played with just 10 players on defense, as Green opted to rest one lineman for each series. They even temporarily dipped to nine players due to an injury but still managed to secure a shutout against Perry. Senior linebacker Lloyd Penn, the only player on defense who had logged snaps all season, highlighted the team’s determination and teamwork.
“We got the news Wednesday that we were going to have 11 players eligible,” Penn explained. “I didn’t think the score would be this high. I’m going to be honest. But my guys came out strong.”
This victory not only highlights the resilience of the team but also sets them up for the City League championship match against Allderdice next Saturday. Fans can expect a full roster for this crucial game, as the Bulldogs aim to secure their fifth title in six years.
Despite the unusual circumstances, the team’s performance showcased their skills and determination on the field. With the upcoming championship, the Bulldogs are ready to prove that even challenges can be overcome with teamwork and grit.
