BOULDER, Colo. & ALBUQUERQUE, N.M. (January 31, 2025) – The University of Wyoming track and field program had an impressive start to its competition weekend, achieving multiple personal bests, a remarkable historic mark, and two top finishes across both the Colorado Invitational and the New Mexico Team Open on Friday afternoon.

At the Colorado Invitational, senior thrower Daniel Reynolds continued to shine. He achieved a new personal best in the weight throw, landing a remarkable throw of 79′ 9 1/4″ (24.31 meters). This throw marks the No. 11 All-Time mark in NCAA history and secures him a first-place finish. With this incredible feat, Reynolds not only set a new school record but also extended his Mountain West record and holds the No. 2 mark in the NCAA for the season.

Freshman Charles LaFore also made an impact, earning second place in the weight throw with a personal best of 61′ 10 1/2″ (18.68 meters). Meanwhile, sophomore Colt Sotelo recorded a personal best as well, throwing 58′ 3 1/2″ (17.77 meters) for a fourth-place finish overall. Additional results from day one at the Colorado Invitational will be detailed in a recap tomorrow.

Over at the New Mexico Team Open, two Cowboys and one Cowgirl showcased their talent in the long jump. Senior Kareem Mersal finished fourth overall with a leap of 25′ 2 1/2″ (7.68 meters), which he achieved on his first attempt. This impressive jump now ranks him No. 14 in the NCAA.
