The tennis courts have recently undergone a stunning makeover that transforms them from worn-out and cracked to a modern, vibrant venue ready for action.

A Team Effort

This revitalization project wasn’t a solo effort; it was a true community collaboration! It involved a combination of private funding and the hard work of local contractors, all working hand in hand with the City of Warren. Major players in this venture included the Betts Foundation and the Richard T. Betts Foundation, who generously provided a budget of $200,000 for the renovation.

Local contractors made significant contributions, with Huber Blacktop and Warren Fence Co. taking on most of the renovation work. Their expertise has played a critical role in this transformation, ensuring the courts are in tip-top shape for community use.

Transformative Renovations

The tennis courts were in dire need of a facelift—the last renovation took place a whopping 17 years ago! The old courts were completely dug up to start fresh, which included excavating four inches deep to lay a solid base of gravel for proper drainage and stability.

All new electrical wiring was installed, alongside brand-new net poles, before the blacktop was poured. Once the new surface was laid, the excitement continued as the courts were painted and sealed to provide players with a delightful and smooth playing experience.

Enhanced Features

10 trees and trimming troublesome tree limbs that had cast shadows over the courts for years.

To brighten up the area, stunning new LED lighting was added, eliminating the frustrating wait for the lights to flick on. Now, players can enjoy nighttime matches without delay!

A Community Hub

Warren Area High School. From dawn until dusk, everyone is welcome to come and play. The courts have quickly become a focal point for local tennis enthusiasts and a home facility for the high school tennis teams.

Despite the declining student enrollment numbers, the tennis teams have seen strong participation. Furthermore, this year, the girls’ team features members from Sheffield and Eisenhower, fostering greater diversity and competitiveness!
