Columbia — The NCAA has granted South Carolina football transfer running back Rahsul Faison another year of eligibility, allowing him to join the Gamecocks for the upcoming season. Faison’s lawyer, Darren Heitner, confirmed the news on social media on August 25, announcing, “CONFIRMED. RAHSUL FAISON IS ELIGIBLE.” A team spokesperson also verified his eligibility with local news sources.
Faison, a 6-foot tall running back, transferred to South Carolina in January after playing two seasons at Utah State. In the 2022 season, he achieved an impressive performance, rushing for 1,109 yards on 198 carries, scoring eight touchdowns, and averaging 5.8 yards per carry. During his time at Utah State, Faison was ranked as the No. 4 running back in the 2025 transfer portal according to 247Sports.
The decision regarding Faison’s eligibility took over eight months as concerns arose from his previous stops in college football. Faison began his college journey at Marshall in 2019, but he did not participate in games. In 2020, he attended online classes at Lackawanna College and did not play football. He then transferred to Snow Community College, where he was also inactive for the 2021 season. In 2022, he rushed for 355 yards and scored six touchdowns during his limited playing time.
As South Carolina prepares for its season opener against Virginia Tech on August 31 at 3 p.m. on ESPN, Faison has secured a spot on the running back depth chart. Coach Shane Beamer has expressed enthusiasm about Faison’s inclusion in the lineup. The Gamecocks have other running backs, including Oscar Adaway III, who served as the team’s No. 2 running back last season and gained 295 rushing yards and three touchdowns in his first year under Coach Beamer. South Carolina also recently added Isaiah Augustave from Colorado, along with other returning players like Jawarn Howell, Matthew Fuller, and Bradley Dunn.
With Faison now fully eligible, the Gamecocks look forward to a promising season ahead, hoping to make a strong impact in college football.
