The Philadelphia Eagles are making moves as they enter Week 2 of the NFL season. They are acquiring running back Tank Bigsby from the Jacksonville Jaguars for a package of fifth- and sixth-round picks in 2026. At just 24 years old, Bigsby had a solid season last year, rushing for 766 yards and scoring seven touchdowns. He also averaged 32.5 yards per kick return, making him a valuable addition to an already strong Eagles running back room which includes All-Pro Saquon Barkley, AJ Dillon, and promising second-year player Will Shipley.
In San Francisco, the 49ers face some injury challenges as star tight end George Kittle is expected to be out for a few weeks due to a hamstring injury. Additionally, quarterback Brock Purdy may not be ready to play this week after suffering injuries to his left shoulder and toe in the season opener. Coach Kyle Shanahan confirmed that the team has yet to decide whether to place Kittle on injured reserve, which would keep him out for four weeks, or to keep him on the active roster in hopes of a quicker return. Purdy’s availability remains uncertain, but Shanahan noted the toe injury could be a bigger concern.
Meanwhile, the Chiefs have concerns of their own. Receiver Xavier Worthy dislocated his shoulder during a tough season opener against the Chargers in Brazil and will attempt to rehab rather than having surgery initially. Coach Andy Reid mentioned that the team is taking it “day by day” and monitoring his progress. They may also be without rookie receiver Jalen Royals, who has been dealing with a knee injury.
On the New Orleans Saints front, starting safety Julian Blackmon could be facing a long-term injury as pain in his shoulder raised serious concerns following their opening loss to the Arizona Cardinals. Coach Kellen Moore confirmed the injury could keep him out for the rest of the season, although no decision has been made on which backup will step into the starting role.
The 49ers, however, secured one of their own as they extended right tackle Colton McKivitz on a three-year contract worth $45 million, with $27 million guaranteed. McKivitz had publicly expressed his desire to remain in San Francisco, and it seems both sides were able to work out a deal quickly.
Attention is also drawing to Jauan Jennings, who exited the game against the Seahawks with a shoulder issue. He will undergo an MRI to assess the damage, a situation that led the team to bring back Kendrick Bourne on a one-year deal. Russell Wilson is still set to start for the New York Giants this week despite a disappointing performance in Week 1, as coach Brian Daboll confirmed the team’s trust in him moving forward. Although the quarterback battle continues to be a topic of discussion, Wilson’s priority will be improving after a challenging opening game as they look ahead.
