Kentucky High School Football Rankings Unveiled After Week 5
This week’s football action in Kentucky has wrapped up, and the rankings are in! As high school teams head into the heart of the season, the inaugural computer rankings have been released, showcasing the top teams in the state.
In the Region 6A rankings, the one-loss Ryle team, boasting a record of 4-1, has taken the top spot ahead of the undefeated Barren County, which stands at 5-0. Ryle’s only loss this season came against the top squad from Region 5A, the Cooper Jaguars. Meanwhile, Barren County looks to maintain its unbeaten streak as the season progresses.
Looking at the competition in Region 5A, the Cooper Jaguars lead the charge, followed closely by the South Oldham Dragons and the Woodford County Yellowjackets, taking the No. 2 and 3 spots, respectively. These teams are hoping for a slip-up from Cooper in the upcoming weeks to boost their chances in the rankings.
The rankings are based on a formula that utilizes a linear algebra-based ranking algorithm, inspired by the renowned Colley Bias-Free Ranking Method, which was designed by Dr. Wes Colley to minimize subjectivity in rankings.
These computer rankings will be released weekly, alongside human power rankings, to provide a comprehensive overview of the best teams in Kentucky high school football.
This new development offers high school sports enthusiasts a unique way to track their favorite teams and players, marking an exciting time for fans as they support their local athletes.
Stay tuned for more updates in the coming weeks as the high school football season heats up!
