Kansas High School Football: Top Teams Hold Their Ground

This week in Kansas high school football, the elite teams showcased their skills and determined their spots in the On3 Massey Ratings top 25 list. As of September 24, the rankings saw only minor shifts, with Shawnee Mission Northwest moving up one place to take the 20th spot, and Great Bend dropping to 21st.

After the third week of the 2024 season, seven of the top ten teams maintained their unbeaten records, clearly demonstrating their dominance on the field. Both Olathe North and Louisburg have made strides, breaking into the top 25 after previously being unranked. The On3 Massey Ratings ranks teams by analyzing game outcomes, strength of schedule, and margin of victory, which adds weight to these rankings.

St. Thomas Aquinas remains at the top of the list. The Saints are not known for high-scoring games, as they haven’t hit 30 points yet this season. Instead, their strength lies in their defense, allowing just 16.25 points per game. In a recent game against Blue Valley, their defense shined by limiting the opposition to just 16 points.

In the second spot, Gardner Edgerton has also remained unbeaten, pulling through a tough game against Shawnee Mission Northwest while averaging an impressive 47.66 points per game. Close behind, Blue Valley Northwest holds the third ranking. Despite a tight victory over St. James Academy, they continue to show they are serious contenders this season.

Looking at the fourth position, Derby has dominated their opponents, outscoring them 176-14 in the early part of the season. Their recent game saw them crush Salina South 59-7.

The fifth-ranked Mill Valley is back in action after a strong win over Lawrence Free State, pushing their offensive ranking to second place with dynamic performances from players like Reggie Reece.

As the weekend approaches, fans eagerly anticipate another exciting round of games. All teams will continue to battle fiercely to solidify their rankings moving forward.
