Exciting Week 4 of High School Football in Fillmore County

This past Friday in Fillmore County, high school football reached its midpoint with some thrilling matchups in Week 4. All eyes were on the teams as they fought for playoff positioning, and many did not disappoint.

One of the standout performances came from Fillmore Central, the two-time defending Section 1, Class 1A champions. Currently sitting at a solid 3-1, they are on the verge of securing the third seed in the section playoffs. Their path to potentially grabbing a higher seed is looking tough as they do not face undefeated Goodhue, who is now at 4-0 after their impressive 39-28 win over Blooming Prairie (3-1). This victory puts Goodhue in a prime spot for the number one seed.

If Blooming Prairie finishes with a record equal to or better than Fillmore Central, they are likely to claim the second seed. With Goodhue, Fillmore Central, and Blooming Prairie all being serious contenders for the section title, expect an exciting second half of the season, especially leading up to the section tournament next month.

In the local 9-Player section, the race for the playoffs is heating up. LeRoy-Ostrander/Lyle-Pacelli and Spring Grove both improved to 4-0 and currently rank seventh and eighth in the state poll, respectively. Cam Hungerholt of L-O/L-P had a jaw-dropping performance, compiling 408 total yards, including 268 rushing, in a 48-34 victory against Houston.

Kingsland is also making headlines as the defending section champion bounced back from an early loss to L-O/L-P and has been on a tear, averaging 59.3 points in their last three contests.

In coaching milestones, Joel Swanson of Kasson-Mantorville celebrated his 150th career win during a 35-12 victory against Faribault. Meanwhile, Mike Kesler of Lourdes bagged his 165th win in a nail-biting 7-6 game over Red Wing, making him the winningest coach in the school’s history.

If you thought those performances were spectacular, the Heimer brothers from Byron took it to another level. Carson Heimer rushed for 198 yards and four touchdowns while brother Jordan added 97 yards and two touchdowns in the team’s 55-0 triumph over Austin. At K-M, Peterson-Gordon and Thome combined for a formidable effort, with Peterson-Gordon rushing for 155 yards and Thome for 110 yards.

As the season progresses, players are maximizing their touches with impressive stats, making for an exciting finish to the regular season. Injuries or slip-ups could definitely turn the tides, so stay tuned for what’s shaping up to be a thrilling playoff race!
