High School Football Highlights in Northeast Tennessee and Southwest Virginia
In Tri-Cities, high school football fans were treated to an exciting night filled with thrilling matches and impressive performances. The latest games took place on October 18, 2024, and here are some of the notable outcomes from the gridiron.
Starting with the big victories, Cherokee dominated the field against Sullivan East, scoring an impressive 45 points while holding the opposing team to just 7. In a closely contested game, Cosby squeaked out a narrow win over Cloudland with a final score of 27 to 26.
Another highlight of the evening was Dobyns-Bennett, who secured a strong win against William Blount, finishing 28 to 14. Furthermore, Elizabethton completely overpowered Volunteer, shutting them out with a staggering score of 42-0.
In other action, Gibbs walked away with a convincing 38-7 victory over Morristown East, while Happy Valley held Cumberland Gap scoreless in an impressive 45-0 defeat. Johnson County managed to edge out Gatlinburg-Pittman with a score of 14 to 7.
Morristown West also had a solid performance, defeating David Crockett with a score of 35-7, and North Greene showcased their skills in a decisive 44-6 win over Unaka. In perhaps the most lopsided score of the night, Sevier County trounced Daniel Boone with a remarkable 49-0 victory.
The night continued with South Greene dominating Eagleton Academy 28 to 20, while Tennessee High left no doubt in their 48-6 victory against Cocke County. In a solid performance, Unicoi County defeated Claiborne with a score of 42 to 13.
As the night went on, West Ridge crushed West Greene with an explosive 58-0 victory, and Eastside maneuvered past Twin Springs with a score of 51 to 14. In a close match, Gate City narrowly beat Lee High with a score of 42-39.
This week also saw other teams like George Wythe taking down J.I. Burton 40 to 13, and Graham winning against Lebanon by a score of 27-14. Not to be left out, Grundy achieved a 27-0 win over Hurley, and Holston kept Northwood scoreless with a 42-0 finish.
In additional results, there were also tight battles with Honaker narrowly defeating Narrows 40-35, Ridgeview dominating John Battle 55-0, and Rural Retreat edging out Chilhowie 19-14. Tazewell secured a strong win against Marion with a final score of 31-7, while Thomas Walker topped Twin Valley 34-8.
Finally, Union triumphed over Wise Central with a dominant score of 54 to 7, and Virginia High finished strong against Richlands 48-12. With these electrifying scores coming in, it’s clear that high school football in Northeast Tennessee and Southwest Virginia is in full swing, giving fans plenty to cheer about this season!
