HELENA — The high school football scene is buzzing after the fourth week of action, and excitement is in the air as teams battle it out for top rankings. Among the notable performances, one state champion from last season stays undefeated, while two others have seen their unbeaten streaks come to an unexpected halt.

Two prominent teams, the Bozeman Hawks and Dillon Beavers, both ranked No. 1 in their classes, faced their first losses on Friday night against the Great Falls High Bison and Frenchtown Broncs. The Bison secured a surprising victory over Bozeman, snapping their impressive 14-game winning streak. This was a wake-up call for the Hawks, who now need to regroup.

Great Falls High’s quarterback, Riley Collette, showcased an impressive performance with 172 rushing yards, guiding his team to a solid victory against Bozeman at Van Winkle Stadium. The Bison outperformed the Hawks on the ground with a total of 320 rushing yards, compared to Bozeman’s 124. Additionally, their defense excelled with 15 tackles for loss, highlighting the Bison’s dominance in both offense and defense throughout the game.

Frenchtown also made headlines this weekend, defeating defending state champions Dillon by a score of 22-13. Their quarterback, Brody Hardy, recorded 340 total yards and contributed three touchdowns to the win. Furthermore, Billings Central earned a convincing 31-7 victory over former No. 4 Laurel, strengthening their case for a top ranking in Class A.

With these results, we see a shift in the 406 MT Sports high school football rankings. Great Falls High’s impressive win places them at No. 3 in Class AA, while Frenchtown advances to the top in a fiercely competitive field that now includes three remaining undefeated teams.

As the season progresses, the Eastern AA conference has opened up significantly, and upcoming matchups are expected to deliver thrilling football moments. Next week, the focus turns to the anticipated clash between Bozeman and Gallatin. Gallatin, who has never beaten Bozeman, aims to change that narrative against a vulnerable Bozeman team.

Stay tuned as we watch these high school football teams battle for supremacy, with each game promising to bring more excitement and surprises!
