Alexandria Takes Top Spot in Class 5A Rankings
In a thrilling turn of events, Alexandria has climbed to the top position in the Class 5A high school football rankings after an impressive victory over the former No. 1, Elk River. The game, which took place last Friday, ended with a score of 47-31 in favor of Alexandria, allowing them to secure their unbeaten record at 4-0.
This change in the rankings was largely due to the overwhelming support from writers who recognized Alexandria’s strong performance, leading to their rise to the top spot in this week’s updates. With 9 first-place votes and a total of 117 points, Alexandria is now setting the pace in Class 5A.
Meanwhile, Moorhead and Owatonna also received first-place votes, with Moorhead holding a record of 4-0 and earning 106 points, while Owatonna sits with 91 points and the same record. Andover made a notable jump as well, moving up to the 4th spot following a solid 3-1 record.
In Class 6A, the top three teams remain unchanged with Lakeville North, Maple Grove, and Minnetonka. However, Maple Grove received more votes for the top position this week, totaling 4 first-place votes and 107 points.
