South Sound High School Football Stars Recognized

In the heart of Washington, the annual tradition of showcasing the best high school football talent in the South Sound community is alive and bringing excitement to fans and players alike. This year’s All-Area football team celebrates top performers from more than 35 schools across six classifications, from 4A down to 1B, enriching the landscape of local high school sports.

The selections are made with serious consideration, gathering insights from coaches to highlight the standout athletes that graced the fields this season. The All-Area first and second teams feature a total of 37 players, with contributions from a wide range of schools.

This year, the structure of the first-team spots reveals great diversity. The 4A South Puget Sound League leads with 18 players, followed by the 4A North Puget Sound League with five, the 3A North Puget Sound League with four, the 3A Puget Sound League with five, and various others from smaller leagues, including the 2A Evergreen Conference and 1A Nisqually League.

Notably, the coveted title of Player of the Year goes to Rainey-Sale, a 6-3, 230-pound linebacker from Bethel. His unmatched ability on defense transformed games, racking up 98 tackles and returning three interceptions for touchdowns. His performance in leading the Bison to a successful season was nothing short of outstanding. Rainey-Sale’s talent earned him a scholarship to University of Washington, turning down offers from universities like Oregon and Alabama.

The coaching staff also received accolades, with Decatur Coach recognized for orchestrating a thrilling turnaround from a winless season just three years ago to a remarkable 10-1 record this year.

The Sumner Spartans showcased a powerful offense, scoring an impressive average of 50 points per game, thanks in part to coordinated efforts by their coaching staff. The highlights continued with other impressive stats, like Kentwood’s running back closing his high school career with a game of 344 rushing yards, leading to a standout finish.

As the season wrapped up, the spotlight was illuminated on the diligent players and committed coaches who put their heart into every game. With a blend of talent and teamwork, South Sound’s football community looks forward to another exciting season ahead.
