Providence, Rhode Island — Thanksgiving week is usually filled with fun and excitement, especially for high school football fans. However, this year, some schools in the area faced tough decisions due to the weather. With cold and heavy rain predicted to sweep in on Thursday, several rivalry games were moved to Wednesday night to ensure everyone could enjoy them safely.

Michael Traficante, the Athletic Director for Cranston, shared his thoughts on the situation, saying, “It’s more than just a football game. We are very fortunate to have two great bands, the Westernettes and Falconettes, alongside the Emerald Core, cheerleaders, and the ROTC color guard.” He emphasized that rescheduling was a way to provide the best experience for players and fans alike.

The games that were updated to Wednesday evening include:

  • Rogers High School vs. Tiverton High School at 5 p.m.
  • Mt. Hope High School vs. Barrington at 5:15 p.m.
  • Cranston High School East vs. Cranston High School West at 6 p.m.
  • Taunton High School vs. Milford High School at 6 p.m.
  • South Kingstown High School vs. North Kingstown High School at 5 p.m.
  • Smithfield High School vs. North Providence High School at 6 p.m.

Fans are looking forward to cheering on their teams and enjoying all the festivities that come with Thanksgiving football. It’s a tradition that brings communities together, and despite the weather challenges, everyone is eager to make it special.

As the games kick off, it’s clear the spirit of the holiday remains strong, even with the changes. Let’s hope the weather holds up for an exciting night under the lights!
