Colerain Township, Ohio — Colerain High School is on the lookout for a new head football coach after Carl Huber announced his resignation on Wednesday. Huber has completed two seasons as the head coach but faced a challenging year, ending the recent season winless. Although stepping down from his coaching role, he will continue to work within the Northwest Local School District (NWLSD) as an intervention specialist.

In their official release, the Colerain athletic department expressed their gratitude for Huber’s commitment to the players and their families during his time with the program. “NWLSD and Colerain High School extend their heartfelt gratitude to the outgoing coach for his unwavering dedication and advocacy for players and families over the past several years,” the release stated.

Colerain’s football program is now focused on its future as they begin the search for a new head coach. The school posted the head coaching position on Wednesday afternoon. Interviews for the role will be conducted between December 9 and December 21, with plans to announce a new coach before Christmas. The school has chosen not to appoint an interim head coach during this transition period.

The Cardinal football team has not seen postseason play since their 14-7 defeat against Mason on October 28, 2022. Huber was hired as head coach on January 9, 2023, after serving as an assistant coach for several years. He graduated from Northwest High School in 2010 and played football and wrestled before continuing his football career at Mount St. Joseph University, where he suffered a career-ending injury. Following his injury, Huber joined the U.S. Army Reserves, serving for six years and earning a bachelor’s degree in education.

The Colerain Cardinals are set to play at La Salle in the 2025 season opener, and updates regarding the new coaching search will be forthcoming.
