Denver was shaken last week by an alarming incident involving Josh Reynolds, a wide receiver for the Denver Broncos. The 29-year-old player was reportedly shot twice after leaving Shotgun Willie’s, a strip club located in the Denver area. This unexpected violence left Reynolds with wounds to the back of his head and his left arm, adding to a concerning wave of gun violence that has plagued many cities.
Alongside Reynolds, two other men were injured during the shooting early Friday morning. One of the men was shot in the back, while the second was hurt by broken glass. The trio is believed to have been followed after exiting the club. Reports indicate that they were fired upon while inside a blue Ford Bronco.
Local authorities received several 911 calls, triggering an extensive investigation. Police later discovered numerous bullet marks on the back driver-side and on the front windshield of the vehicle that Reynolds was in. According to court documents, both Reynolds and the other victims stated they encountered no disturbances while they were inside the strip club. However, they noticed multiple vehicles tailing them as they made their way to the highway.
As the investigation unfolded, two suspects, identified as Burr Charlesworth and Luis Mendoza, were arrested on Wednesday in connection with the shooting. Surveillance footage revealed that Mendoza’s vehicle was closely following Reynolds’ car during the incident. Charlesworth reportedly stated that he had followed the group on behalf of a friend due to previous issues.
Following the shooting, the Broncos released a statement confirming Reynolds’ involvement. He missed the team’s game against the Saints after being placed on the injured reserve list with a finger injury. The statement explained, “Josh Reynolds was a victim of a shooting on Friday in Denver and received treatment for minor injuries. Out of respect for the legal process, we will defer further comment on this matter to the authorities.”
