East Rutherford, New Jersey – The Buffalo Bills edged out the New York Jets in a tight game on Monday night, finishing with a score of 23-20. However, the match was marred by frustration over officiating, particularly during the Jets’ final drive, which was complicated by four penalties, including some offsetting fouls.
In a critical moment, Jets quarterback Aaron Rodgers attempted to pass to Mike Williams, but his throw was intercepted by Bills cornerback Taron Johnson, sealing the victory for Buffalo. Both teams struggled with penalties throughout the night, with each side racking up 11 penalties: the Bills for 94 yards and the Jets for 110 yards.
The Bills jumped to an early lead, going into halftime at 20-17. Both teams only managed to score three points in the second half. Bills quarterback Josh Allen had a solid performance, completing 19 of 25 passes for 215 yards and throwing two touchdown passes, one to Dawson Knox and the other to Mack Hollins. Allen also contributed on the ground with an 18-yard touchdown scramble.
On the other side, Rodgers kept the Jets competitive with a surprising Hail Mary touchdown just before halftime. He finished the game with 23 completions on 35 attempts, totaling 294 passing yards and two touchdown passes to Allen Lazard and Garrett Wilson. Both receivers topped 100 receiving yards, with Lazard catching six passes for 114 yards, while Wilson caught eight for 107 yards.
Despite a determined effort from the Jets, including a controversial coaching change after the firing of head coach Robert Saleh, they struggled with missed opportunities. Kicker Greg Zuerlein missed two key field goals that could have altered the game’s outcome.
The win places the Bills at the top of the AFC East standings with a record of 4-2, while the Jets drop to 2-4.
