In Dallas, Micah Parsons is making headlines with his strong opinions about NFL officiating. The Dallas Cowboys’ standout linebacker took to social media on Thursday to express his frustration over how officials are enforcing rules during games. Parsons believes that the calls are often made in favor of scoring and excitement, which he thinks compromises the fairness towards defensive players.
Parsons pointed out that officials seem to overlook penalties against the offense while frequently flagging the defense. He stated, “They don’t call offsides for offense, but they’ll call it on defense. They won’t call offensive pass interference, but they’ll call defensive pass interference. We know what they’re trying to do. They want to load the points up so fans can be happy.”
Another significant point he raised was about player safety. Parsons recalled a recent game where he sustained an injury after being poked in the eye but received no penalty for what he termed “illegal hands to the face.” He argued, “If you’re going to say it’s about protecting players, then protect all players.” He then explained that he is now using a more protective face mask due to concerns over safety.
Parsons did not hold back, also mentioning that while the league fines players for certain actions, such as leading with the helmet, similar dangerous plays by offensive players go unpunished. “That’s not good football. That’s not safe football,” he emphasized, showing his frustration with the inconsistency in officiating.
Despite these challenges, Parsons understands the realities of being a top player in the league. He acknowledged, “Being one of the best” comes with its own set of officiating hurdles but is determined to continue competing at a high level. His comments resonate with many defensive players who feel overlooked in games, and they might just spark further discussions about how the game is officiated.
