Swimming Success at the Intercity Meet

This year, the Normal West High School girls made a splash by capturing the title at the Intercity Swimming and Diving Meet. The competition was fierce, but Normal West came out on top with an impressive overall score of 529 points. They left University High School in second place with 445 points, while Normal Community High School (NCHS) finished third with 408 points. Bloomington High School (BHS) closely followed in fourth with 400 points, while Central Catholic High School concluded the event in fifth place with 235 points.

The highlight of the diving events was undoubtedly Lexi Rankin of Normal West, who achieved first place in 1-meter diving with a phenomenal score of 260 points. In swimming, Chloe Crowder made waves by winning the 100 backstroke with a time of 1:07.18, showcasing her impressive skills.

Meanwhile, NCHS shone brightly, thanks to Piper Lowder, who had a stellar performance with double wins in both the 50 freestyle (with a time of 24.91) and the 100 freestyle (clocking in at 54.64). BHS’s Hailey Kardas also dazzled the crowd with her victories in the 100 butterfly (finishing in 1:01.61) and the 500 freestyle (with a time of 5:29.34).

Adding to the excitement, Anna Jennings from BHS made her mark as a double winner, seizing first place in the 200 individual medley (with a time of 2:20.12) and the 100 breaststroke (finishing in 1:12.04). U High’s Lauryn Burroughs also shined bright, winning the 200 freestyle at 2:07.98. BHS dominated the relay events, claiming victory in all three races, proving their prowess as a cohesive unit.

In diving, NCHS led the scoreboard with a total of 92 points, outperforming all other teams, while Normal West scored 30 points and BHS 27 points.

Tennis Triumph for NCHS

Normal Community High School girls’ tennis team celebrated a fantastic achievement, winning their third consecutive Big 12 Conference championship.

Ashley Walls powered through to win the singles title at the No. 3 position, with Krishi Kandury securing the title at No. 4 and Taylor Curtis prevailing at No. 6 for NCHS. Meanwhile, Angela Caceres and Vienna Quach fought hard, both finishing in second place in singles at No. 1 and No. 2, respectively.

In a dominant display, NCHS claimed victory in all three doubles brackets, with Walls and Caceres winning at No. 2, Quach and Kandury at No. 1, and Leila Floyd and Curtis finishing strong at No. 3.

Volleyball Victories

Central Catholic’s volleyball team boasts a remarkable record of 26-5, despite their intense rivalry with U High. The team’s progress and performance have been commendable, signifying their growth throughout the tournament.

Finally, the Lexington volleyball squad took home the championship at the PBL Classic, showcasing their strength and determination by defeating teams like ALAH, PBL, Milford, and Rantoul. Notably, Avery Poppe and Gracie Stutzman from Lexington received accolades, earning spots on the all-tournament team.
