Milwaukee Panthers Women’s Soccer Team Aiming for Fourth Straight NCAA Tournament
Milwaukee is buzzing with excitement as the Milwaukee Panthers women’s soccer team gears up for what they hope will be their fourth consecutive NCAA Tournament appearance. Under the leadership of head coach Kevin Boyd, this team has become a powerhouse in the Horizon League, clinching three straight conference titles and demonstrating their strength in both regular-season and tournament play.
The current senior class is particularly remarkable, having suffered just one league defeat throughout their entire tenure with the team. “One of our values is to be greater than the sum of our parts. So that is the team working together,” Boyd explained. His emphasis is on teamwork, which drives the players to train hard and collaborate effectively against their opponents.
Part of Milwaukee’s success strategy includes a demanding nonconference schedule, where they face top-tier teams to prepare themselves better for league play. Senior player Lola Wojcik mentioned, “We always start off pretty hard with a crazy nonconference schedule, and then moving into conference, we try to dominate because all of these teams are coming for us.”
The environment at practice often rivals that of their actual games. “Every day, we find a way to get better, even if we’re winning or losing,” said senior Anna Champine. This commitment to improvement helps maintain the intensity and focus within the squad.
The strong chemistry among the players adds to the team’s continued success. Senior Ellie Rebmann expressed her joy, saying, “I feel like we’re all super close, and it really makes playing more enjoyable.”
Boyd credited the senior leadership for cultivating a championship culture within the program. “I’m here for them. The seniors drive it every single year, and they want to go out the way they came in, and that’s with a conference championship,” he noted.
As the season unfolds, all eyes will be on the Milwaukee Panthers as they pursue their goal of returning to the NCAA Tournament.
