Summit High School Golf Team Shines Bright in Recent Tournaments!
In the picturesque city of Breckenridge, Colorado, the high school golf season is heating up, and it’s been a wild ride for the Summit High School Golf Team. This season, which lasts just over nine weeks, has seen the team come together, showcasing their hard work through impressive performances on the green!
Tigers Take Home Title at Keystone Ranch
On Thursday, September 11, 2025, the Tigers were absolutely thrilled as they clinched the victory at their home competition held at the stunning Keystone Ranch Golf Course. Nothing feels sweeter than winning at home, and it sent a wave of excitement through the team and their loyal supporters!
The Tigers didn’t stop there! Just a few days later, on September 15, the team traveled to Montrose for another tournament where they proved themselves yet again. Senior Hogan Tobias led the charge with a solid score of 75, placing him tied for seventh overall. Not far behind, senior Ryan Lankhorst scored an 82, landing him in a tie for 22nd. Senior Jacob Knight also put in a valiant effort with an 85, which secured him a tie for 30th place.
Adding up their individual scores, the trio of Tobias, Lankhorst, and Knight brought home a team total of 242, which was good enough for a sixth-place finish. Their performance was just three strokes shy of overtaking Fruita Monument for fifth place, which only added to the competitive spirit!
Mother Nature Intervenes
As if the excitement of tournaments wasn’t enough, the team faced an unexpected twist as a tournament scheduled at the Haymaker Golf Course in Steamboat Springs on September 16 was canceled due to inclement weather. While disappointing, the Tigers understood that safety comes first and took the opportunity to regroup and refocus their efforts.
Fox Hill Invitational – A Solid Showdown!
Just one day later, on September 17, the Tigers participated in the thrilling Fox Hill Invitational, and it was nothing short of spectacular! This tournament was particularly important as it served as a preview for the upcoming 4A state competition. The Tigers knew they had to bring their A-game!
Junior Parker Gray shone brightly as he finished as the top golfer for Summit with an outstanding score of 73, placing him sixth overall. Following close behind, Hogan demonstrated his prowess once again, tying for 17th place with a score of 75. Ryan Lankhorst contributed with an 81, tying him for 40th, while Colton Jones rounded out the team, shooting an 88 for a tie at 86th position.
The combined efforts of the team led to a formidable total score of 229, placing them in a tie for fourth among 31 teams. What’s even cooler? They were only six strokes away from taking the top spot, which was claimed by Grand Junction. The Tigers can hold their heads high knowing they are competing fiercely!
Looking Ahead
As the season inches closer to its end, Coach Zach Dobrota is feeling optimistic about the team’s progress and growth. With just one more tournament scheduled for Friday, September 26, before they dive into postseason play, the Tigers are gearing up for what promises to be an exciting finish.
With all these accolades and a strong team spirit, the Summit High School golf team is definitely a force to watch as they finish out the season! Keep your eyes peeled for more thrilling action from this dedicated group of young athletes!
