Las Vegas is buzzing after the NFL confirmed that Tom Brady, the limited partner of the Las Vegas Raiders, is free to sit in the coaches’ booth and wear a headset during games. This announcement came after Brady was spotted in the booth during the Raiders’ 20-9 loss to the Los Angeles Chargers on Monday night.
The NFL clarified that there are currently “no policies” preventing owners from participating in game-day activities like Brady did. According to the league, players and staff members in the booth must adhere to specific rules, which include restricting the use of electronic devices to only what is provided by the league.
Brady’s involvement with the Raiders was approved last October while he simultaneously signed a 10-year contract with a major broadcasting network to be one of their lead announcers. While being a part of the Raiders isn’t a typical move for a broadcaster, the NFL has stated that Brady is present in the booth as a limited partner and is not involved in coaching decisions.
Nevertheless, throughout the 2024 season, Brady has to follow certain limitations. Unlike last year when he couldn’t attend production meetings or team facilities in-person, this season allows him to attend some production meetings remotely, although he still cannot visit locations like team hotels.
Raiders head coach Pete Carroll mentioned the topic during a news conference, saying, “Tom’s tried to honor that really strictly… He’s very respectful of what he does otherwise.” Brady seems to be keen to avoid being seen as a disruptive influence while remaining involved with the team.
Looking ahead, the Raiders will face the Washington Commanders next, a team that Brady recently called on-air for a different network during their season opener. Meanwhile, amidst the buzz surrounding Brady, there have been injuries across the league, including the Minnesota Vikings placing running back Aaron Jones on injured reserve and Tampa Bay Buccaneers defensive tackle Calijah Kancey likely out for the season.
As the NFL season continues, fans will keep an eye on Brady’s role and performances of their favorite teams, amidst ongoing challenges and controversies surrounding player health and coaching strategies.
