Milford High School Baseball Welcomes New Era with Coaching Transition
Milford, Ohio is buzzing with change as the school announces a shift in its baseball program. After three seasons at the helm, Asif Shah has officially stepped down as the head coach. His time at Milford saw plenty of ups and downs, ending with a record of 41 wins and 45 losses. In the competitive realm of the Eastern Cincinnati Conference (ECC), Shah’s record was a slightly more challenging 26 wins and 28 losses.
Last season, the Milford Eagles wrapped up with a record of 13 wins and 14 losses, and the year before that, they finished at 7 wins and 11 losses. While not the record everyone hoped for, Shah is thankful for the support from current players, former players, parents, and fellow coaches throughout his coaching journey.
Looking Ahead: New Leadership on the Horizon
As the school moves forward without Shah, the search for a new head coach is already underway. Interested candidates are invited to send their resumes to Athletic Director Aaron Zupka via email or through the school’s website. Zupka is expected to begin interviewing candidates as early as next week, aiming for a quick and efficient hire to lead the program.
Shah took over a program with a rich history, having previously enjoyed significant success with five ECC titles in the last ten seasons. His coaching experience extends beyond Milford, as he previously led the Cincinnati Country Day team, boasting an impressive overall record of 66 wins and 39 losses during his five-season tenure there. Awards and recognition followed him, including the Miami Valley Conference-Scarlet coach of the year in 2021, and the Southwest Ohio Baseball Coaches Association Division III coach of the year in 2019.
Shah’s Baseball Journey
Shah’s baseball journey has been a colorful one. He is currently the general manager at Five Star Midwest Baseball, where he also coaches the 17U team. A familiar face to many current Milford players, Shah has mentored them through his role at Five Star. His extensive coaching background also includes time as an instructor at Diamond Baseball Academy, assistant roles at Turpin and Finneytown, and a successful stint at Cincinnati Country Day.
A proud alumnus of Cincinnati Country Day, Shah played college baseball at multiple institutions including the University of Akron, Wabash Valley Junior College, and Southeast Missouri State. He also enjoyed a professional career in the Independent League, where he showcased impressive skills with a .312 batting average over seven seasons between 2009 to 2014 and again in 2016.
A Legacy of Excellence
Although his time was marked by challenges, Shah leaves behind a baseball program in Milford that has recorded the third-most wins in the Greater Cincinnati area over the past decade. The Eagles have maintained an average of 20.1 wins per year, showcasing a remarkable resilience as they have never had a losing season in the ECC since 2013. Notably, Milford baseball reached district runner-up status in both 2014 and 2017 while also making a regional final appearance in 2016.
As the Milford community reflects on Shah’s contributions, there is a palpable excitement in the air for what lies ahead. The next head coach will have the opportunity to step into a program rich with tradition and potential, connecting with players and the wider community. Here’s to a new chapter in Milford baseball!
