Nashville Soccer Action: SEMO and Murray State Seek Wins
Nashville, TN – Southeast Missouri State University soccer is still searching for its first win of the season after playing two games. The Redhawks faced off against former conference rivals Belmont on the field. In what turned out to be a tight match, the Bruins managed to secure a 1-0 victory over SEMO. It took the Bruins a full half to break through the Redhawks’ sturdy defense. The lone goal came from Kaitlyn Elliot, who skillfully headed in a chip shot into the net. Redhawks goalkeeper Madison Geisler made an effort to stop the shot but couldn’t keep it out, and the game ended with SEMO unable to find an equalizer, mustering only four shots throughout the night.
The Redhawks are now gearing up for their next challenge as they continue their road trip. They will face off against rivals Southern Illinois on Thursday. The Salukis come into the match with a 1-0 record, thanks to a dominating 4-0 win in their season opener against Eastern Illinois.
Meanwhile, in Murray, the Murray State Racers played their own match against Lindenwood but unfortunately fell 1-0. Similar to the Redhawks’ game, the Lions won after Rachel Jackson found the net with a goal off a corner kick. After this loss, the Racers now sit at a record of 1-1. They will head down to Nashville for a match at Lipscomb on Thursday.
In other local action, the UT Martin Skyhawks kicked off their season at home against Arkansas State this past Sunday. They were looking to claim an early win but ended up finishing the match in a 1-1 draw. Kylee Thompson scored first for the Skyhawks, but they couldn’t hold the lead as Kennedy Horn equalized for A-State in the final six minutes. The Skyhawks will have a chance to bounce back on Thursday when they host North Alabama.
As the season progresses, local teams are eager to secure their early wins and prove their strength in the league.
