COLLEGE STATION, TEXAS – Exciting news has come from the NCAA regarding Texas A&M’s basketball program. The NCAA has officially granted Rubén Domínguez a waiver, allowing him two years of eligibility to play for the Aggies. This announcement was confirmed by the program on Tuesday.
Domínguez, a 6-foot-6 guard, recently joined the Aggies after spending a year in Spain’s top professional basketball league with Surne Bilbao Basket. The 22-year-old has a strong basketball background, having been part of Spain’s under-16 and under-20 teams for the past six years. His skills on the court make him a valuable addition to the Aggies.
Head coach Bucky McMillan praised Domínguez, highlighting his exceptional shooting ability. “What he brings is 3-point shooting from the time he steps on the floor. He can shoot it from half court,” McMillan said during the Dallas A&M Club’s Coaches Night. “He’s one of the best shooters in the world.”
Throughout his career in Spain, Domínguez has shown impressive stats, averaging 13 points per game with a shooting percentage of 42.3%. Over the last two international tournaments, he displayed remarkable shooting, hitting 41% of his 3-point attempts. Last season with Bilbao Basket, he averaged 7.6 points and 1.8 rebounds in just 16 minutes of playtime each game.
In his international career, Domínguez played a significant role in Spain’s success, being a member of the teams that secured gold medals at the U16 Euro Championship in 2019 and the U20 tournament in 2022. Notably, he was named the MVP of the tournament in 2019.
The approval of Domínguez’s waiver has stirred excitement among fans and the basketball community, marking a significant milestone in his journey with the Texas A&M Aggies. The program looks forward to what he will bring to the team in the coming seasons.
