Indianapolis Preseason Kickoff: Highlights and Injuries
As the NFL preseason kicked off, the attention was notably on Indianapolis as the Colts faced off against the Baltimore Ravens. The Ravens took the victory with a final score of 24-16, but the game’s main highlight came from a thrilling 87-yard punt return touchdown by Ravens wide receiver LaJohntay Wester.
The young Colts quarterback, Anthony Richardson, suffered a dislocated pinky finger on his throwing hand due to a blind-side sack by David Ojabo in the first quarter. He was surprised to leave the game so early, with head coach Shane Steichen updating fans that Richardson is currently “day-to-day.”
Over in Philadelphia, the Eagles enjoyed a close 34-27 win over the Cincinnati Bengals. Both quarterbacks, Joe Burrow and Tanner McKee, threw for two touchdown passes each, showing strong form as the regular season approaches.
Meanwhile, the Las Vegas Raiders had a dramatic contest against the Seattle Seahawks, finishing with a 23-23 tie. It was a rough start for both teams, but the Raiders managed a late surge to secure a tie as Daniel Carlson nailed a 51-yard field goal to level the score. However, the Seahawks were not without their own impressive plays, notably with George Holani, who rushed for 61 yards and a touchdown in the first quarter.
Rookie quarterback Cam Miller shined for the Raiders in his debut. After taking over for Aidan O’Connell, he quickly made an impact with a 41-yard touchdown pass. Despite some ups and downs, including a blocked game-winning attempt, Miller’s performance was a positive note for the Raiders.
On the other hand, the opening games also exposed some concerns, particularly on the defensive side for the Raiders, leading to a need for improvement as the preseason unfolds. Although there is still much to be evaluated, teams are gearing up for the regular season, and fans will surely be looking for more standout performances in the upcoming games this Friday.
