Lincoln Sees Nebraska at the Top of Preseason Volleyball Rankings

Lincoln, NE – As the fall sports season approaches, the excitement for women’s college volleyball is heating up. The American Volleyball Coaches Association (AVCA) has unveiled its first Power 10 rankings, and the University of Nebraska is leading the pack. This comes as no surprise to fans and experts alike, given Nebraska’s storied past and strong recruitment strategy.

Alongside the rankings, the AVCA is gearing up for its annual Player of the Year Award, which celebrates the most outstanding female collegiate volleyball players in the nation. Since its inception in 1985, this award has gone to some of the sport’s top talent, including multiple-time winners like Kathryn Plummer and Misty May. These athletes are recognized not only for their athletic prowess but also for their contributions to the game and the positive attitude they bring to their teams.

This prestigious award has been dominated by Stanford athletes, who have claimed the title a remarkable 10 times. The AVCA was originally launched in 1981 as the Collegiate Volleyball Coaches Association (CVCA) by Terry Liskevych and Andy Banachowski. Since then, it has grown significantly, expanding its reach to include coaches from various divisions and levels of the game.

As coaches evaluate players, the selection process for the Player of the Year Award runs from July to December, demonstrating a thorough and comprehensive examination of performances throughout the season.

With Nebraska at the forefront and the AVCA continuing to build on its legacy, this volleyball season promises to deliver exciting matches and outstanding individual performances.
