This season saw some remarkable talent from Sobrato High School shine brightly, making waves on the track.

Star Performers from Sobrato High

A few standout athletes from Sobrato really showcased their skills during the championship events. Shaunise Tuua particularly stole the spotlight. At the CCS Finals on May 24, she raced in both the girls’ 100 and 300 hurdles. She secured a fantastic fourth-place finish in the 100 with a time of 12.63 seconds, demonstrating the hard work she put into her training throughout the season. As she reflected on her achievements, her growing appreciation for hurdles became evident.

Another impressive performance came from Cali Barberi, who finished ninth in the 800-meter event, clocking in at 2:19.16. Meanwhile, Vijay Gali didn’t disappoint either, finishing seventh in the boys’ 300 hurdles with a time of 40.47 seconds. Over at Live Oak, the competition was fierce as well. Jayden Mendoza put forth a solid performance, achieving seventh in the 100 meters with a finish time of 11.36 seconds. In the high jump, Jason Momrow cleared 5-2 to place 12th, while Mendoza, part of the boys’ 4×100 relay team, along with teammates Isaac Watson, Joshua Cachola, and Justin Ruffner, finished 12th in their event with a time of 45.75 seconds.

Sobrato’s Strong Showing at BVAL

Sobrato High’s boys had a noteworthy performance at the BVAL meet as well. Kevin Havens claimed first place in the 300 hurdles with an impressive time of 39.58 seconds, followed closely by Vijay Gali in third at 40.60 seconds. Alexander Delgado also made his mark, ranking eighth in the 100 with 11.37 seconds and 11th in the long jump at 20-0.75. Not to be outdone, Jonathan Brackensick secured fifth place in the high jump with a clearance of 5-8, while Christopher Baker’s remarkable shot put of 43-0.5 placed him sixth.

The Sobrato relay teams were exceptional, with the boys’ 4×100 finishing fourth in 43.87 seconds and the 4×400 team taking third place at 3:28.75.

Girl Power Shines at BVAL

The girls’ events were equally thrilling, with Shaunise Tuua again shining. She dominated the BVAL championships, winning the 100 meters with an impressive time of 12.27 seconds and snagging second in the 300 hurdles with 47.46 seconds. Not only that, but she also secured fifth in the long jump at 15-6.

Ava Valone was right behind, finishing as the runner-up in the 100 meters at 12.47 seconds and achieving fifth in the triple jump with a distance of 34-4. Cali Barberi stood tall as well, finishing fifth in both the 800 and 1600 meters.

Ellie Valone contributed to the team effort with a ninth-place finish in the long jump, while Samantha Jenkins and Ellen Ruskin clocked in at 1:04.92 for 12th in the 400 and 17.38 seconds for 10th in the 100 hurdles, respectively.

Sobrato’s Relay Teams Shine

The Sobrato girls’ 4×100 relay team took home the gold with an impressive time of 49.15 seconds, comprised of Ellie Valone, Yaretzi Ortiz, Maina Ponce, and Kylie Duley. The 4×400 relay team may have finished seventh, but they showed great spirit, with Barberi, Jenkins, Nidhi Gali, and Sophia de los Santos pushing hard.
