Katy Celebrates Outstanding Young Athletes of the Year
In the vibrant city of Katy, excitement is in the air as the Katy Independent School District (Katy ISD) proudly announces its 2024-25 Athletes of the Year. Three extraordinary students have been recognized for their exceptional talents, leadership skills, and dedication not just in athletics but also in academics. This year’s honorees include Adam Carter from Katy High School, and a fantastic duo, Ananya Sriniketh from Tompkins High School and Janey Campbell from Seven Lakes High School.
Adam Carter Shines as Male Athlete of the Year
Leading the pack is Adam Carter, who has truly made a mark in the world of sports at Katy High School. Over four years, Carter excelled in both football and track and field, constantly proving that he is a powerhouse of talent. Not only did he achieve great heights in track, reaching the UIL state meet in his last two seasons, but he also contributed significantly to the Tigers football team, securing the position of a three-year starter.
Throughout his high school journey, Carter showcased his skills by medaling a whopping three times at the state track meet, bringing home one shiny gold medal and two impressive silver medals. His records are nothing short of legendary – he holds the school records in shot put and discus, as well as impressive titles for the District 19-6A and 6A Region 3 shot put records.
To add to his achievements, Carter set the school record for the longest punt at an astonishing 78 yards. In recognition of his astounding abilities, he was named district MVP in football his senior year and even made it to the All-Greater Houston area team. His success didn’t stop there; he also clinched district titles in shot put and discus, earning area champion honors and securing regional championships in both events. His crowning achievement was winning the state title in shot put. Future aspirations for this exceptional athlete include continuing his journey at Texas State University.
Ananya Sriniketh Captivates as Female Athlete of the Year
In a phenomenal performance of her own, Ananya Sriniketh claimed equal recognition as a female athlete of the year. With a remarkable four-year run in varsity tennis at Tompkins High School, she proudly displayed her excellence by winning four district championships in singles tennis. Ananya’s determination took her to the state finals as a sophomore, where she earned a silver medal after an intense match.
Her perseverance culminated in capturing the state singles championship as a senior, marking a thrilling seven-hour battle on the court. Ananya’s efforts did not go unnoticed, as she was named to the Texas High School Coaches Association’s Super Elite Team for Team Tennis. Her academic genius also shone through, earning her Academic All-District and All-State recognition throughout her sport-filled years. The next chapter in her sports story will see her continuing at Claremont McKenna College.
Janey Campbell Dominates as a Dual-Sport Athlete
Last but certainly not least, Janey Campbell from Seven Lakes High School has proven herself as an outstanding dual-sport athlete, earning letters in both swimming and track and field. Impressively, she competed at the UIL State Track and Field Meet every year of high school, which speaks volumes to her dedication and talent.
Janey’s accolades include winning three district titles in discus and one in shot put. Her crowning glory came during the 2025 Texas Relays Shot Put Championship, proving her to be a dynamic competitor. Each year, she qualified for the state track meets, consistently placing in the top five and finally winning the shot put in her senior year. Her hard work culminated in her selection for the Texas High School Coaches Association’s Super Elite team, and she is set to spread her wings and excel at the University of Michigan.
