Bloomington, Ind. – After a long wait of over three months, Luke Goode, the senior forward for Indiana men’s basketball, found out the outcome of his appeal to the NCAA regarding an additional year of eligibility on Tuesday. His medical hardship waiver was denied, according to reports. Goode hinted at this disappointing news through an Instagram post later in the day. In his message, he expressed gratitude for his journey, stating, “(Four) years later. Thank you God for the journey through highs and lows. Can’t wait for what’s next! Isaiah 41:10.”
Standing at 6-foot-7 and weighing 203 pounds, Goode played a key role for the Hoosiers in the 2024-25 season. During his time at Indiana, he appeared in all 32 games and made 16 starts. His average statistics included 9.1 points and 3.1 rebounds per game, showcasing decent shooting percentages of 41.4% from the field and 39.2% from three-point range.
Goode’s appeal for a medical waiver was primarily due to the 2022-23 season, where he faced a tough setback. He broke his foot during preseason and could only return to play in 10 games, not meeting the NCAA’s criteria for additional eligibility, which requires a player to compete in 30% or less of the team’s total games. At Illinois, Goode made 10 appearances in 33 games, which amounted to 30.3% of the games that season.
Throughout his career, the Fort Wayne, Indiana native has averaged 5.6 points and 2.8 rebounds over 108 games. After the Hoosiers’ loss in the Big Ten Tournament against Oregon, Goode expressed his desire to return to the team. This sentiment was echoed by first-year head coach Darian DeVries, who announced in May that they were keeping an open scholarship spot for both Goode and teammate Anthony Leal, whose own waiver request was also denied.
As it stands, the Hoosiers’ roster for the upcoming 2025-26 season consists of 12 players, allowing DeVries the opportunity to fill one more spot as the new season approaches, with just over three months remaining until tipoff.
