We had a thrilling couple of days in local high school baseball and softball, with plenty of action on the field! The matches from June 30 to July 1, 2025, kept fans at the edge of their seats, showcasing talent, teamwork, and a few nail-biting moments that will surely be talked about for a while.
Baseball Round-Up
Starting off with the baseball scores from Thursday, Newman Catholic edged out Dike-New Hartford with a tight 2-1 victory, showcasing their strong competitive spirit. Meanwhile, Clear Lake narrowly defeated Decorah, finishing at 4-3. In a commanding performance, Saint Ansgar overwhelmed Clarksville with a score of 11-1, asserting their dominance on the diamond.
Forest City had an intense matchup against Lake Mills, walking away with an 8-6 win. We also saw an exciting doubleheader featuring Ames against Mason City, with Ames claiming both games at 9-2 and 4-5 respectively. Boone made quick work of Hampton-Dumont-CAL, scoring a whopping 10-0.
Algona had quite the rollercoaster, winning one game against Charles City with a score of 12-0 and dropping the second game 11-1. Webster City truly showed off their skills, defeating Osage decisively with a score of 13-1. What a day for these teams!
Wednesday’s Highlights
Looking back at Wednesday, Mason City had a massive showing, dominating Marshalltown in back-to-back games with scores of 15-0 and 17-2. Newman Catholic also took the lead against Saint Ansgar, finishing off with a 7-5 victory. Garner-Hayfield-Ventura crushed Rockford with an impressive score of 18-2.
Osage pulled off a solid win over Nashua-Plainfield, with a final score of 14-8. Bishop Garrigan had a good day too, winning both of their matchups—first with a close 9-7 score against Garner-Hayfield-Ventura and then an easy win over West Hancock at 11-1. Webster City and GTRA had a nail-biter, with Webster City nicking the victory at 14-11.

Among these exciting games, the doubleheader between Mason City and Newman Catholic was quite notable. This local crosstown rivalry is always a treat for fans. Certainly, a lot of pride is at stake, and the teams delivered some thrilling baseball!

Ames showed their prowess in their matchups against Mason City, replicating a similar feat with scores of 11-1 and 0-0—an interesting combination!
Wapsie Valley put on a strong performance against Don Bosco, winning with a score of 7-3, while Clarksville defeated AGWSR decisively at 9-4.
