NFL Free Agency Buzz: Big Names Await Contract Extensions in 2025 Offseason
This offseason, NFL teams have spent hundreds of millions of dollars in free agency, but many star players are still in the mix for new contracts. Some of the biggest names in the league are negotiating extensions, making this an exciting time for football fans.
Among the key players to watch are Micah Parsons of the Dallas Cowboys, Lamar Jackson with the Baltimore Ravens, and T.J. Watt from the Pittsburgh Steelers. Each player is in a different situation but all are looking for substantial contract extensions.
Starting with Parsons, he showed up for Cowboys minicamp in June, even though a new contract wasn’t in place. He expressed that he was “pretty hopeful” they could reach an agreement before the season started. Parsons acknowledged that talks had not yet begun, but he remained optimistic about negotiations moving forward.
Meanwhile, the Ravens’ general manager, Eric DeCosta, confirmed that discussions about a new deal for Lamar Jackson were happening. Jackson, who is under contract until 2027, is expected to be part of the team’s priority as they prepare for the upcoming season. The Ravens hope to secure an extension before his cap hit rises to $74.5 million next year.
On the other side, T.J. Watt is looking for a new deal, having skipped minicamp as he aims to renegotiate his contract. Currently, he is set to earn a large sum but ranks lower than some of his peers in terms of annual value. There are rumors of potential trades involving him, but the Steelers seem committed to keeping him on the roster.
Another notable player, Trey Hendrickson, had been in a tough position with the Bengals earlier this offseason but is reportedly back in talks for a new deal. This follows a period where he felt there was little communication from the team’s management.
In New York, the Jets have reportedly opened extension talks with cornerback Sauce Gardner and wide receiver Garrett Wilson. Gardner described discussions as “productive“, and both players seem keen to stay with the team long-term.
Lastly, Terry McLaurin of the Washington Commanders is holding out for a contract extension as he enters the final year of a significant deal. Despite some frustrations about progress, it seems both sides may still have time to negotiate before the season kicks off.
As the 2025 season approaches, all eyes will be on these negotiations. With so much money on the line, any deals or trade talks could reshape the league, making for a thrilling offseason.
