Justin Tucker Suspended for 10 Games Amid Misconduct Allegations
Baltimore – The NFL has announced that former Baltimore Ravens kicker Justin Tucker will be suspended for 10 games following an investigation into multiple sexual misconduct allegations. This decision comes amid significant scrutiny, as over a dozen allegations have surfaced, primarily involving inappropriate conduct during massage therapy sessions. The suspension is set to begin on August 26, coinciding with roster cutdown day, and Tucker can apply for reinstatement on November 11.
After playing 13 seasons with the Ravens, Tucker was released on May 5, shortly after the team drafted a new kicker, Tyler Loop, in the sixth round. Ravens’ General Manager Eric DeCosta emphasized that the release was strictly a football decision, remarking on the difficulty of such a choice given Tucker’s history with the team. The NFL’s decision to suspend Tucker follows investigations led by the league concerning allegations reported by several massage therapists between 2012 and 2016.
Tucker’s agent, Rob Roche, expressed disappointment over the NFL’s ruling. Roche stated, “Justin has always strived to carry himself in a way that would make his family and community proud.” He added that Tucker is eager to move past this challenging situation and hopes to get back on the field quickly.
Despite the allegations, Tucker and his legal team have consistently denied any wrongdoing. In a public statement, Tucker mentioned, “I have always made a conscious effort to be considerate and respectful.” He feels devastated that anyone would perceive his actions as offensive. Throughout his career, which began in 2012 when Baltimore won Super Bowl XLVII, Tucker has been regarded as one of the most talented kickers in NFL history. He holds the record for the longest field goal ever made at 66 yards and maintains the best career field goal percentage at 89.1%.
As he embarks on this suspension, Tucker remains eligible to work out and sign with an NFL team during this period. Additionally, if he joins a team, he can practice and participate in preseason games before returning to full eligibility later this year. Tucker’s remarkable journey in the NFL includes seven Pro Bowl selections, marking his legacy as one of the greats in the kicking game.
