News Summary
Avon Lake has inaugurated brand-new tennis and pickleball courts behind Avon Lake High School, set to become a central hub for local sports this summer. Featuring eight tennis courts with dedicated pickleball lines, as well as standalone pickleball courts, this facility marks a significant upgrade from the previous 25-year-old courts. Funded collaboratively by the city and the school, this $1.3 million investment emphasizes community health and well-being while providing ample opportunities for athletes and enthusiasts alike. Guidelines for safe use are also in place to ensure enjoyment for all.
Avon Lake Celebrates New Tennis and Pickleball Courts
Avon Lake is buzzing with excitement as the community recently welcomed brand-new tennis and pickleball courts behind Avon Lake High School, located at 175 Avon Belden Road. Just in time for summer, these newly constructed courts are set to become the go-to spot for sports enthusiasts in the area.
Great News for Athletes and Enthusiasts
The new facility features a total of eight tennis courts, with four of them also lined for pickleball. That’s right, two courts per tennis court are dedicated exclusively to pickleball, the sport that has been growing in popularity amongst locals. Plus, there are two standalone pickleball courts that have been funded by the city, catering to the needs of this enthusiastic community sport. Not to forget, Avon Lake High School boasts an active Pickleball Club, ensuring plenty of opportunities for fun and competition.
A Long-Awaited Upgrade
This upgrade comes following the closure of the old courts, which were approximately 25 years old. Their outdated condition raised serious safety concerns that led the insurance company to label them as unsafe. Recognizing the need for a safer and more modern facility, the Avon Lake City Council worked closely with Avon Lake City Schools to establish a Memorandum of Understanding (MOU) back in October to bring the new facility to fruition. This collaborative effort truly highlights the commitment of both the city and school to enhance community well-being through sports.
Investment in the Future
The total cost for this impressive tennis facility comes to about $1.3 million. The breakdown of expenses showcases thoughtful planning and responsible budgeting: the base bid was around $1,213,857, while trench drains and electrical work added approximately $24,645 and $33,533, respectively. The standalone pickleball courts accounted for an additional $77,830. Luckily, the standalone pickleball courts were fully funded by the city, making the entire facility even more accessible for residents.
Guidelines for Use
To ensure the new courts are enjoyed safely by everyone, guidelines concerning hours of operation and general use have been established. So, whether you’re a seasoned pro or just looking to enjoy a casual game with friends, there will be a spot for you!
