Buffalo has been buzzing with the news surrounding wide receiver Amari Cooper. After a trade from the Cleveland Browns during the 2024 season, expectations were high for Cooper to make a significant impact on the Bills offense. However, his performance didn’t quite meet those expectations. Over eight games, Cooper collected only 20 receptions for 297 yards and scored just two touchdowns. His struggles continued into the playoffs, where he managed just six receptions and 41 yards across three games.
The underwhelming outcomes led to speculation about Cooper’s future when an unnamed Bills coach remarked that he might be done at this level. Aiming to strengthen their roster for the upcoming season, the Bills’ general manager, Brandon Beane, decided to take action. He signed former Chargers receiver Joshua Palmer, signaling a clear intention to move on from Cooper.
As the NFL draft approaches, Cooper remains a free agent. This opens the door for potential suitors, and there are a few teams that might consider signing the veteran wide receiver.
The Seattle Seahawks recently said goodbye to Tyler Lockett, yet they still have a strong receiving duo in D.K. Metcalf and rising star Jaxon Smith-Njigba. With new quarterback Sam Darnold in the mix, the Seahawks could use a reliable outside weapon like Cooper to complement Metcalf.
The New Orleans Saints also find themselves in need of help in their receiving corps. Outside of Chris Olave, there aren’t many solid options for quarterback Derek Carr. New head coach Kellen Moore will likely aim to enhance the Saints’ passing game, and Cooper could fit that bill, especially on a low-risk deal given that he may not be a top receiver anymore.
A potential reunion with the Dallas Cowboys is also possible. They need to add depth to their receiving unit next to CeeDee Lamb, and with the established chemistry between Cooper and Dak Prescott, returning to Dallas might be appealing for both sides. Maybe there are still one or two more productive seasons left in Cooper.
For the Bills, it seems they’ve decided to go in a different direction. Yet, if Cooper is open to a lower-profile role and is willing to take a step back, Buffalo could be an option down the line. During his time with the team, he did exhibit some chemistry with quarterback Josh Allen and showed he can still make significant plays, albeit not with the same consistency as in his earlier years.
As the draft approaches and offseason developments unfold, many eyes will be on Amari Cooper to see where he lands next.
