Pittsburgh Prepares for Possible Draft Move for Shedeur Sanders
Pittsburgh, PA – The NFL Draft is just around the corner, and the Pittsburgh Steelers have their eyes on a potential star quarterback. Reports indicate that the team will bring in Shedeur Sanders, the highly regarded quarterback from Colorado, for one of their top-30 pre-draft visits this week. This begs the question: where will Sanders land in the draft?
The Steelers currently hold the No. 21 pick and are showing interest in adding Sanders to their roster in case he falls down the draft board. Many believe he is the second-best quarterback available this year. The Tennessee Titans seem to be focused on selecting Cam Ward with the top pick, which could open up opportunities for other teams.
With the Cleveland Browns holding the No. 2 overall pick and the New York Giants at No. 3, both teams are in clear need of a franchise quarterback. However, the Giants have already signed veterans Russell Wilson and Jameis Winston this offseason, which may lessen their immediate need for Sanders. If the Browns choose a different direction, there’s a possibility Sanders could drop down further, especially with teams like the New York Jets (No. 7) and New Orleans Saints (No. 9) already set at quarterback.
Considering that the Jets have recently signed Justin Fields and the Saints have committed heavily to Derek Carr, the Steelers may see a window of opportunity to draft Sanders if he falls. The Steelers lost both Wilson and Fields during free agency and currently have just Mason Rudolph and Skylar Thompson on their depth chart.
If Pittsburgh decides to draft Sanders, it also opens up the possibility of bringing in a seasoned player like Aaron Rodgers to help guide the rookie while still securing a future talent. With Rodgers weighing his options, selecting Sanders could be a smart long-term move for the Steelers, as they could develop him for future seasons.
As the draft approaches, it remains to be seen what the Steelers will do, but it’s clear that they are preparing for various scenarios with Sanders on their radar.
