Indianapolis Eagles at the NFL Scouting Combine
Indianapolis was buzzing this week as the Eagles hit the NFL scouting combine, just weeks after celebrating their Super Bowl win against the Kansas City Chiefs. Despite the whirlwind, Eagles general manager Howie Roseman remains optimistic as he quickly recovered from a beer can that struck him during the victory parade on February 14.
Roseman addressed reporters at the combine, stating, “I’m OK. Yeah, it wasn’t great Friday night (of parade), but I powered through it.” His focus now is on enhancing the roster as they evaluate potential draftees and review medical records and test results.
The Eagles also have to manage contracts with players like linebacker Zack Baun and defensive linemen Milton Williams and Josh Sweat, among others, as free agency approaches. There has also been buzz about potential trades that could shake up the roster, with names like Myles Garrett coming up in discussions.
In a surprising twist, the Eagles dropped from No. 4 to No. 22 in the NFLPA’s player satisfaction survey. This ranking takes into account factors like travel, family treatment, and overall team experience, and while they scored low in travel and locker room conditions, they excelled in food and coaching.
One potential draft pick, Jalon Walker, a linebacker from Georgia, expressed his desire to join his former college teammates already on the Eagles’ defense. Walker noted, “All of their success is no surprise to me… the way those guys are wired.” However, it is unlikely the Eagles will select a linebacker early, as their history reflects.
After a successful draft last year with cornerback Quinyon Mitchell, the Eagles are eyeing edge rusher Darius Alexander as another potential target. Alexander dreams of teaming up with Mitchell, speaking highly of their connection.
Meanwhile, head coach Nick Sirianni is entering the last year of his contract but is not stressed. Having led the team to a Super Bowl and enjoyed significant success, he is expected to receive a well-deserved raise coming from his previous deal.
Sirianni remarked, “Those things will take care of themselves. My biggest job right now is to get good guys around us.” With the recent departure of offensive coordinator Kellen Moore, Sirianni is now on the hunt for a new quarterback coach for Jalen Hurts, marking the fourth coach in five years for the young quarterback.
As the scouting combine progresses, fans are keen to see how the Eagles’ strategy unfolds, with many questions still looming around player contracts, draft selections, and coaching decisions.
