Pahrump Valley High School Tennis Teams Make Waves in Recent Playoffs
This past week has been an exciting time for the Pahrump Valley High School tennis teams, as the Boys team made a splash by advancing to the semifinals of the 3A Southern League Regional Championships, while the Girls team put forth an admirable effort before their season came to a close.
Boys Tennis Team Shines Bright
The Trojans Boys Tennis team put their skills to the test on Tuesday and emerged victorious with an 11-7 win over Virgin Valley in the quarterfinals. This impressive win not only progresses the team to the next round but also highlights the dedication and preparation that the boys put in throughout the season. Under the guidance of Coach Michael Dela Rosa, the boys played against challenging 5A programs, including Liberty and Bishop Gorman, to sharpen their game.
Going into the quarterfinals as the third seed gave them a bit of an edge, especially with the comfort and advantage of home-court conditions. In singles matches, Ethan Johnson and Bryce Dykstra both put on phenomenal performances, winning two matches each, while teammate Jace Eichner secured a crucial late victory that propelled the team forward.
The doubles teams didn’t just participate; they excelled with Juan Carlos Rodriguez-Ortiz/Sonny Skinner and Ethan Johnson/Nick Watson both finishing their matches with a flawless 3-0 record as they contributed significantly to the team’s overall score. The victory secured them a spot in the semifinals against Coral Academy of Science.
The boys’ next challenge will take place on Thursday, October 9, at Whitney Ranch Park in Henderson. Additionally, from October 16, the boys will break into individual play for both singles and doubles in the playoffs hosted at Bishop Gorman High School, with Lucas Johnson facing off against Pradyumna Aiyangar from Coral Academy, while Jace Eichner will take on Matthew Marshall from Moapa Valley.
The exciting matches don’t stop there as the boys doubles teams are set to face formidable opponents with matchups including Taysom Christensen/Chase Hanson against Jacob Nikhman/Lior Goren and other teams looking to make their mark.
Girls Tennis Team Comes Up Short
While the doubles duo of Layla Burnell/Milly Khandpur contributed with two points, other newly formed doubles partnerships struggled to find their footing. Even so, Coach Michael Dela Rosa expressed pride in the girls for their notable season and reinforced a commitment to improvement moving forward.
Even with the end of team playoffs, the Lady Trojans are not quite done yet! On October 16, they will continue their journey in the 3A Southern Girls Singles and Doubles Round of 16 Playoffs at Bishop Gorman. Aurora Bowers will pit herself against Brooklyn Koster from Boulder City, while Skinner and Anthony are set to take on Hadley Robinson and Halle Abbott from Virgin Valley respectively.
The doubles matches promise more excitement as Ally Amador/Elise Eichner will clash with Adraiana Freeman/Makenna Nelson, while Lily Gregory/Wendy Rodriguez meet Brinley Keller/Melizza Fernando at the same time. Also, Burnell/Khandpur will receive a bye and look forward to their match on October 17 at noon against an opponent that is still to be determined.
This playoff season has undoubtedly highlighted the tremendous talent and dedication of both teams, setting the stage for even more thrilling tennis ahead!
