Two Ways to Make a Splash!
There are multiple ways for these talented young ladies to qualify for the state championships. One route they can take is by meeting the pre-established qualifying standards set at the beginning of the year. These benchmarks are no small feat and show just how competitive the field can be!
Another exciting route comes during the much-anticipated regional qualifiers, which will take place on:
- Thursday, November 6 for diving competitions

In other exciting news from the world of Iowa swimming, we cannot forget the remarkable performance of the Dubuque Hempstead boys swimming team, who clinched their first state title at the Iowa high school state swimming meet! They scored an impressive 213.5 points, outshining Iowa City West, which secured second place with 181 points, and Waukee, which finished third with 177.5 points.
While Dubuque Hempstead might not have individual state champions, they soared to victory in not just one, but two relay events – the 200 freestyle relay and the 400 freestyle relay, thanks to some stellar performances by their relay teams.
The shining stars of their team were undoubtedly Owen Leitzen and Kyle Powers, who played crucial roles in the team’s triumph. Leitzen seized third place in the 50-yard freestyle with a time of 20.81 seconds, while Powers followed closely in fourth place with a time of 20.88 seconds. Powers also shone in the 100 freestyle, finishing in third with a time of 45.73 seconds.
