Summit Springs Into State Tournament with Two Golfers!
In the beautiful town of Summit, excitement is buzzing as the Summit High School golf team has officially qualified not one, but two talented golfers for the upcoming Class 4A state tournament! Scheduled to tee off on October 6, 2025, this thrilling event will be held at the stunning Fox Hill Club in Longmont. With a competitive season behind them, this announcement is sure to have the local community cheering on their favorite golfers.
New Challenges, New Goals
This year, qualifying for the state tournament was more challenging than ever. Unlike previous seasons where a solid performance in the regional tournaments could ensure a spot, this time, selections were based on the top-ranked individual golfers. This meant that the golfers’ best five rounds played throughout the season significantly impacted their rankings. With only four golfers allowed from each team to advance, the stakes were high!
While last year, the Summit team managed to send three golfers to the state competition, this time around, they are proud to celebrate two talented individuals making the cut: senior Hogan Tobias and junior Parker Gray. With the new qualifying format bringing a twist to the season, the team put their heart and soul into their performance.
A First-Timer’s Dream Come True
Hogan Tobias has emerged as Summit’s highest-ranked golfer, impressively finishing 42nd out of 84 competitors. This will mark Tobias’ state tournament debut, a remarkable achievement considering he was an alternate just last year. Meanwhile, Parker Gray isn’t far behind, finishing at the 64th position in the rankings. Though they might be two of the younger competitors at the tournament, both are ready to show what they’re made of!
Coach Zach Dobrota couldn’t be happier with this year’s qualifiers, recognizing the determination and dedication the duo has displayed throughout the season. As the only team from the Western Slope region participating in the state tournament, they carry the pride and expectations of their community on their shoulders.
Familiar Grounds
In a fantastic turn of events, both golfers had the opportunity to play at The Fox Hill Club during the Fox Hill Invitational on September 17. Their experience on the course could give them an added advantage at the state tournament. Gray secured a strong sixth place finish with a score of 73, while Tobias finished shortly after at 17th with a score of 75. With this experience under their belts, they feel well-equipped to tackle the challenges the course may present.
Counting Down to the Big Day!
As excitement builds, the pair is preparing for their practice round, which is set for Sunday afternoon. Tobias is slated to tee off for his first round at 11 a.m., closely followed by Gray at 11:10 a.m. on October 6. Each golfer is gearing up for a total of 36 holes in the tournament, with the second round set for October 7.
With high hopes and determination, Tobias and Gray are ready to step up to the tee and strive for a strong performance. Both golfers are eager to make their mark in this year’s state tournament, aiming not only to represent Summit High School but also to surpass last year’s team performance, where all members finished within the top 70.
As they enter this exciting chapter, the entire Summit community stands behind Hogan Tobias and Parker Gray, ready to cheer for their local heroes in the Class 4A state tournament. Here’s to aiming for greatness on the green and making Summit proud. Good luck, golfers!
