In the 2A boys race at the same invitational, Hempfield’s Liam Hodge secured a solid fifth-place finish, showcasing his speed by outrunning Solanco’s Isaac Esh to the finish line. Meanwhile, McCaskey’s Ruby Garner-Valle also impressed by claiming third place in her heat. The spirit of competition was palpable, and these young athletes are clearly eager to stake their claim this season.
Weekend Highlights: Ben Bloser Bulldog Invitational
The excitement continued with limited Lancaster-Lebanon League action this week, but several teams hit the ground running at the Ben Bloser Bulldog Invitational at Big Spring High School.
Among them was Pequea Valley’s Jonah Zink, who painted a strong picture with a fifth-place finish in the 2A boys race, clocking in at 16:51.2. His teammates also contributed well to the team’s overall performance, with Joshua Reinford and Aiden Hofmann finishing 24th and 25th respectively, putting up respectable times of 17:58.3 and 17:58.5. Meanwhile, Northern Lebanon’s Luke Hentz and Thaddeus Raub held their ground to finish 13th and 18th, respectively, in a field of 165 runners. It’s always impressive to see such dedication from our local talents.
The Girls’ Competition Heats Up
On the girls’ side, Pequea Valley’s Reagan Gates stole the spotlight by winning the 2A race with an impressive time of 18:30.9, almost a minute ahead of her nearest rival. In the 3A race, the competition was no less fierce. McCaskey’s Ruby Garner-Valle earned a commendable second place finish with a time of 18:13.5, just behind Carlisle’s Ana Bondy. Elizabethtown’s Gabriella Grifone also made notable strides, finishing seventh with a clocking of 19:09.4.

As the season unfolds, our local cross country teams are primed for more action. This week will see a new wave of competition with upcoming meets. The Section Two meet is set to create some buzz between Donegal and Lampeter-Strasburg at Solanco, while Section One will feature the strong contenders, Manheim Township at Hempfield. Both Donegal and Lampeter-Strasburg’s boys and girls teams boast undefeated records this season, with Solanco’s girls team holding a 3-1 record.
