Weather Delays and Last-Minute Thrillers

This week, the football gods decided to throw a curveball, as several exciting games on Friday night faced delays due to lightning. Mother Nature certainly doesn’t seem to be a fan of the gridiron showdowns but that didn’t stop players from giving it their all!

At one point, top-ranked Del Valle was battling it out against Canutillo, with Del Valle leading 21-16, and just 9:30 left in the fourth quarter. Meanwhile, in another nail-biting matchup, Eastwood was ahead of El Dorado, 36-34 with under three minutes remaining! Talk about keeping the fans on the edge of their seats!

As the dust settled on Friday night, both Eastwood and Del Valle managed to secure wins in thrilling fashion, keeping their hopes for the playoffs alive!

Games Cut Short

Some games, however, didn’t finish under the Friday night lights. The Coronado team celebrated a 40-20 victory over Parkland, but that game was called in the second half due to the ongoing weather disruptions. Similarly, Andress faced an untimely halt against Chapin, leaving fans yearning for more.

Over at Ysleta, the home team edged out a win against Mountain View, but that game too was cut short. And what about Bel Air? They were leading Big Spring 35-28 in the third quarter when that game also was declared a no contest due to the inclement weather.

Finishing Touches

Football fanatics won’t have to wait long, as Riverside and Irvin are set to complete their game at 10 a.m. Saturday at Riverside. Riverside was leading 27-13 when play was halted, and they’ll be looking to wrap things up with a solid finish.

The thrill of high school football is in full swing here in El Paso. With just a few weeks left in the regular season and playoff spots on the line, it’s shaping up to be an exhilarating ride for players and fans alike!
