Racine County High Schools Shine in Recent Cross Country and Swimming & Diving Meets Racine County has been buzzing with excitement as the cross country and swimming & diving seasons roll into full swing at high schools across the area. If you’ve been following along, you’ll be thrilled to hear about the fantastic performances from our local teams! High School Swimming Success In the past couple of weeks, Racine County’s top high school girls’ swimming teams have really made a splash, with four exciting meets showcasing their talents. Our three local co-op teams, the Racine Unified, Prairie/St. Catherine’s, and Burlington co-op, took part in these events, and guess what? Each team managed to grab at least one victory! The Southern Lakes Conference Relays One of the major events was the Southern Lakes Conference Relays held at Jefferson High School. The Burlington co-op swam their hearts out, scoring a solid 210 points and finishing second overall—trailing just behind Lake Geneva Badger’s 240 points. Prairie/St. Catherine’s put in a valiant effort with a score of 38 points, making it a spirited competition. Burlington’s squad stole the show with three impressive first-place finishes! They took home gold in the 200-yard freestyle relay with a time of 1:42.21, the 200-yard butterfly relay at 1:59.34, and the 400-yard breaststroke relay, clocking in at 5:07.99. Notable contributors included Waterford freshman Delaney Rydelski and Burlington senior Molly Warren, who were pivotal in the winning relay teams. They also finished a close second in the 1,000-yard freestyle with a time of 11:02.78, followed by another second in the 400-yard freestyle relay at 3:58.04. The Prairie/St. Catherine’s team had their moments too, with their best finish being sixth in the 400-yard backstroke relay at 5:41.90. Cudahy Invitational Highlights The waters continued to ripple during the Cudahy Invitational, where the Racine Unified School District (RUSD) racked up 268.5 points, securing third in a competitive 12-team field. They clinched a win with their performance in the 400-yard freestyle relay, finishing in 4:16.30. Individual swimmers also showed off their speed, with Sophia Marini finishing third in both the 200-yard freestyle and 100-yard freestyle events, while Aisling Fahy took third in the 500-yard freestyle at 6:09.33. Cross Country Courage On the cross country front, Racine County teams have been running strong! The races kicked off with the Badger Invite on August 28, where Union Grove’s boys team stood tall with three runners making it into the top ten. Parker Newland finished an impressive fifth overall with a time of 18:42.20, while Racine Lutheran’s Ryan Ujcich finished 33rd out of a competitive field. As we moved into September, the excitement continued at the Kenosha St. Joseph Lancer Invitational, where the Prairie girls team finished third. Helina Slamka was a standout, coming in fourth for the 5K race with a respectable time of 21:29.87. Catholic Central showcased their talent with Logan Hough finishing in 11th place for the boys’ team with a time of 19:12.53. Encouraging Efforts In further cross country action, the Waterford boys placed 20th, and the girls team came in 21st at the De Pere Invitational, where Elias Folk led his boys’ team with 48th place, and Alyson Brechtl led the girls with a 58th place finish. The Union Grove girls also put forth an admirable effort at the Mark Klobukowski Bulldog Invite, claiming fifth place!
