In the delightful city of Jamestown, there’s been excitement buzzing through the halls of Jamestown High School as the sports teams recently wrapped up their regular seasons with some remarkable performances! Whether it was the thrilling swings on the golf course, competitive sprints at the cross-country event, or the fast-paced rallies on the tennis courts, our athletes have certainly given their best and entertained us all.
Girls Golf Team Shines at Prairie West Golf Course
The Jamestown High School girls golf team concluded their regular season in style on a beautiful Tuesday afternoon at the Prairie West Golf Course. The Blue Jays showcased their skill and tenacity, finishing with a team score of 373, which tied them for fifth place.
Leading the charge was Mylee Michel, who impressed everyone with her performance, finishing 11th overall with a score of 87. Close on her heels was senior standout Belle Sjostrom, who claimed 14th place with a score of 89, just missing the cut for individual qualification for the upcoming 2025 State Tournament by a single stroke.
Other key players included Braelyn Wiese, who finished her round with a score of 94, and Katelyn Monson, rounding out the team score with a 103. It’s exciting to see such potential for future improvement among these young athletes!
The junior varsity team also wrapped up their season, and it was heartening to observe the significant progress made among these budding golfers. With the varsity team set to kick off postseason play next week, all eyes are on the 2025 WDA Tournament scheduled for September 22!
Cross-Country Teams Make A Strong Showing
The boys’ team finished strong in second place out of nine teams, scoring 63 points. Senior Jaydyn Velek led the way, sprinting to a fifth-place finish with an impressive time of 10:40.73. Freshman Tristan Champagne wasn’t far behind, crossing the finish line in seventh place with a time of 10:42.08.
For the girls’ team, Hattie Fitzgerald placed ninth with a time of 12:35, while Layna Hoffer secured her spot within the top 20 with a time of 12:49.95. They are gearing up for the next competition at Valley City’s Bjornson Park Golf Course this Saturday, and it’s bound to be thrilling!
Tennis Teams Dominating the Courts
Over on the tennis courts, the Jamestown team took on Bismarck High on September 16 and triumphed with a resounding score of 8-1. This marks their third victory against the Demons this season, highlighting their determination and skill.
In singles action, Luke LeFevre defeated Reed Romsaas, while Aden Oettle overwhelmed Quin Kleser in straight sets. The Blue Jays are on fire, and their fan base is cheering them on as they continue to impress!
Volleyball Team Showcases Talent
Last but certainly not least is the volleyball team, which defeated Minot North with a set score of 3-1. They currently hold a record of 4-1 in the WDA and 7-4 overall. They’re set to host Bismarck High on September 18 at 7 p.m., and the anticipation is palpable!
