Danville Takes a Swing at Baseball: New Elementary League on the Horizon!

Exciting news is coming straight out of Danville Public Schools! That’s right, folks! Starting in the Spring of 2026, there’s going to be a whole new elementary school baseball league making its debut, and it’s all thanks to a brand-new partnership between Danville Public Schools and Major League Baseball’s Reviving Baseball in Inner Cities program, also known as Nike RBI! This collaboration aims to bring fun and baseball to the little ones in the community, providing them an opportunity to learn the game and develop essential skills.

Making Baseball Fun for Everyone

  • Nike RBI is focused on ensuring that all kids, regardless of their background, have a chance to swing a bat, catch a ball, and experience the joy that baseball brings.
  • This program is designed to break down barriers that might prevent kids from joining in on the fun, tackling challenges like access to proper equipment, uniforms, and organized leagues.

But what can we expect from this new league? For starters, kids in Danville will be able to participate in baseball at their own schools! Three teams will be formed in each elementary school, ensuring that everyone gets a shot at getting involved. The T-ball league is perfect for our youngest players in Kindergarten and 1st Grade, while the 2nd and 3rd Graders can jump into the Coach-pitch category. Finally, the 4th and 5th Graders will have their turn in the Player-pitch league, where they can show off the skills they’ve learned. And if there’s enough interest, we might even see some softball teams pop up! How cool is that?

Kickoff Preparations Underway

Players can already sign up to participate, with registration available online through an easy link provided by the school. As an extra treat, skills clinics are scheduled for this September to ensure that before the league play kicks off, our young athletes are well-prepared and ready to take the field with confidence!

The enthusiasm for this initiative is palpable! The Head Baseball Coach at George Washington High School is particularly thrilled, recognizing how impactful this program will be. It’s not just about playing a sport; it’s about creating community and involving kids in positive, teamwork-focused activities that can inspire friendships and life skills.
