NFL Roster Cuts Completed as Teams Prepare for the Season
As the sun set in New York City on Tuesday, August 26, all 32 NFL teams finalized their rosters ahead of the regular season. The deadline to trim rosters from 90 to 53 players came with significant decisions that many teams had to make. The NFL comprises 1,696 players, with a staggering 92.7% coming from FBS colleges, which is about 1,573 athletes who have worked their way to the professional level. Notably, SEC and Big Ten schools dominate the list of players contributing to the league. Leading the charge is Alabama, providing an impressive 62 players to the NFL. Close behind, both Georgia and Ohio State have each produced 57 players who made it to the final rosters.
Coming in fourth is Michigan with 44 active playersLSU and Notre Dame share the fifth spot with 39 players each. In total, 214 universities from across the United States have at least one player represented in the NFL, showcasing the widespread talent pool available to the professional teams.
In a noteworthy mention, Quinn Meinerz from Wisconsin-Whitewater stands out as he enters his fifth season in the league. Meinerz earned All-Pro honors for his performance at guard with the Denver Broncos last year, representing one of the few Division III athletes excelling at the highest level of football.
