Practices in Full Swing!

Practice sessions have recently seen players like junior Lev Wolkenbreit, senior Tristan Jones, and freshman Holden Thompson working tirelessly on their putting. Meanwhile, senior Creede Phillips was spotted perfecting his chipping skills on the green, a crucial aspect that the team is emphasizing as they seek to improve their short game. In golf, every stroke counts, and these players clearly understand that!

Our talented squad includes an impressive roster of athletes, with the following players in the front row: Ryus Mattix, Henry Pottebaum, Charlie Short, Lev Wolkenbreit, Henry Sisneros, Holden Thompson, Silas Franco, and Chris Arbour. The back row features Andrew Short, Ben Hillegas, Caden Sharpe, Creede Phillips, John Fast, Logan Rosales, Tao Adams, Bryce Hudson, Alex Messa, and Tristan Jones, along with seniors Caleb Chariton, Ben Hatfield, Marcos Tafoya, and Arig Villarreal.

Focus on Improvement

Leading the way is senior Henry Sisneros, who is truly the star of the team. With five years of experience under his belt, he has set his sights on shooting in the 70s and finishing in the top 10 at the state tournament. Junior Ryus Mattix, who has been a member for three years, is looking to break into the mid-80s and make his mark by qualifying for state.

What’s particularly uplifting is the full attendance of players at the tournaments so far, reinforcing their dedication! Head coach Phil Gardunio is passionate about nurturing the less experienced players, ensuring they learn and grasp the nuances of the game.

Team Collaboration and Support

You can spot freshman Chris Arbour among the players, as he stands out for his strong work ethic and commitment to improvement. Senior Bryce Hudson, who has recently joined the team due to a football injury, is simply focusing on having fun while learning the ropes of the game.

Another senior, Caden Sharpe, brings four years of experience and is excited about the timeless nature of golf, especially after enhancing his iron work. The team’s practice sessions utilize a scramble format, creating an inviting environment for newcomers to learn more effectively while also bonding with seasoned players.

A Strong Support System

Thanks to the Salida Golf Club, team members have been given free student memberships, providing them with access to practice and play, further fostering their love for the game. Coach Gardunio has also gathered an outstanding coaching staff made up of Marc Martellaro, Matt Osness, Daryl Wilson, and even former golf pro Dow Stewart at times, to enhance the team’s performance and experiences.
