FRANKLIN, Tenn. – A former NFL quarterback made headlines this week as he appeared in a courtroom to resolve his DUI case stemming from an incident last October. Jay Cutler, a seasoned 12-year veteran, accepted a plea deal on Tuesday morning, which was sanctioned by a Williamson County judge. The 42-year-old Cutler was arrested on October 17, 2024, after he reportedly rear-ended another vehicle while driving his white Dodge Ram truck on Bridge Street.
The arrest affidavit from the Franklin Police Department painted a concerning picture, stating that Cutler appeared visibly intoxicated at the time of his arrest. According to the report, he attempted to offer the other driver a sum of $2,000 to avoid involving the police and let him leave the scene. Furthermore, police discovered a rifle and a loaded Glock pistol in the center console of his truck, leading to multiple charges against him. These included driving under the influence, possessing a firearm while intoxicated, failure to exercise due care, and implied consent violations.
Under the terms of the plea deal, the charge regarding weapon possession was dismissed. Cutler pleaded guilty solely to the charge of driving under the influence. As part of the agreement, he also consented to forfeit his pistol. Consequently, he has been ordered to pay a fine of $350 and will spend four days in the Williamson County Jail, starting on September 29. He will be under unsupervised probation for one year and is required to attend a DUI safety class. Additionally, his Tennessee driver’s license has been revoked.
Cutler is well known for his time as a quarterback with the Denver Broncos, Chicago Bears, and Miami Dolphins. He played his college football at Vanderbilt University and was selected in the first round of the 2006 NFL Draft as the 11th overall pick by the Broncos.
