Sports fans in Las Vegas, grab your snacks and settle in! Tuesday night was an exciting one for local high school athletics, especially on the soccer field and the volleyball court. From impressive shutouts to standout performances, it’s safe to say that our athletes really brought their A-game!
Girls Soccer Highlights
First, let’s kick things off with the girls’ soccer matches. The Bishop Gorman team really showed their strength as they took down Shadow Ridge with a solid score of 2-0. Not too shabby, right?
Moving over to Tech, Andrea Castaneda decided it was her night to shine. She scored two goals and provided two assists, leading her team to an astonishing victory of 11-0 against Sloan Canyon. Talk about an all-star performance!
Over at Palo Verde, Olivia Gastwirth had quite the night as well. She netted four goals and helped out with one assist in a mammoth 12-0 win over Bonanza. Sounds like Bonanza needs to practice some defense!
Another standout came from Faith Lutheran’s Briana Lee, who scored two goals and assisted on one more in a comfortable 4-0 win against Liberty. With this win, Faith Lutheran avenged last year’s Class 5A state title match against Liberty, making it a sweet victory!
Other notable scores included Laney Van Gundy from Rancho, who also found the back of the net twice in a 4-0 win against Chaparral. Sierra Vista had a roaring victory against Clark, winning 8-0, while SLAM! Nevada managed to snag a goal-heavy win of 8-3 against Basic. Spring Valley also enjoyed a 3-1 triumph over Western, and Sunrise Mountain beat Valley 6-0. Mojave edged past Sky Pointe with a 2-0 victory, while Green Valley secured a 3-1 win against Silverado.
Girls Volleyball Highlights
Boulder City’s Ella Battistone was on fire, putting up 10 kills and one block in a decisive 3-0 win over Del Sol. Nice work, Ella!
Desert Oasis’ Emerson Moore contributed a remarkable 13 assists and nine digs, although her team narrowly lost 2-3 against Centennial. It was a tough match, but she showed grit and determination!
Lea Scott from Shadow Ridge was another player to watch, racking up 24 assists, 11 digs, and four aces in her team’s 3-1 victory against Durango. That’s what we call a night at the office!
