News Summary
The Lansing Legends Baseball Club has formed to reinvigorate high school baseball in Lansing, drawing interest from over 75 former players and coaches. With plans to support young talent, the club looks to restore the competitive spirit that once defined Lansing’s baseball teams. Monthly meetings will strategize long-term initiatives to foster community involvement and mentorship.
Lansing Legends Baseball Club is Here to Revitalize Local High School Baseball
Lansing has been known for a rich history in high school baseball, but the past 25 years have seen a significant decline in success for its high school teams. In a bid to change the game, a dedicated group of former players and coaches have formed the Lansing Legends Baseball Club, aiming to breathe new life into the sport in the Lansing School District. This fresh initiative is looking to not just revamp the teams but also inspire the next generation of baseball players.
A Community Effort to Reinvigorate Baseball
The inaugural meeting of the Lansing Legends Baseball Club took place on August 13, 2025, at a local gathering spot known as the Nuthouse. This was the club’s second meeting, and attendance showed just how passionate the community is about restoring Lansing’s baseball legacy. The club has attracted interest from at least 75 former players and coaches, all excited to contribute to revitalizing baseball in the area.
With a goal of fostering young talent, the club aims to engage kids as young as eight years old. Organizer Jim Keyton detailed plans to sponsor both individual players and teams, making it easier for families to get involved and create a thriving baseball culture once more.
The Current State of Lansing Baseball
If we look back in history, however, there’s a glimmer of hope. These schools used to dominate back in the day, with all three winning the prestigious Dean Shippey Diamond Classic at least once before 1992. In the first 30 years of the tournament, they combined for an impressive 11 titles. Sadly, since 1992, no team from the Lansing School District has brought home a Diamond Classic title.
Hope Is in the Air
Former Lansing Everett coach Jake Boss Sr. was among the attendees at the recent meeting, bringing with him a wealth of experience and a hopeful outlook for the revival of strong baseball programs in Lansing. Boss Sr. previously led his team to three Diamond Classic championships, demonstrating that with the right support, success is possible.
The Capital Area Conference has a storied past, once being regarded as one of the most competitive baseball conferences in the state. The new club aims to restore that competitiveness. Current Laingsburg softball coach Jeff Cheadle, who used to play under Boss Sr., expressed a commitment to help rejuvenate Lansing baseball, despite his ongoing commitments to Laingsburg athletics.
A Plan Moving Forward
The Lansing Legends Baseball Club is not just a one-time effort but a sustained initiative. The group plans to meet on a monthly basis to devise strategies and discuss actionable initiatives that could lead to a brighter future for baseball in the Lansing School District. They understand it’s going to take time, dedication, and community support, but they are all in it together.
As they embark on this journey to revitalize Lansing baseball, it’s clear that this is more than just about winning games; it’s about building community, mentoring young athletes, and instilling love for the game that so many of these former players have cherished throughout their lives.
The future looks promising for Lansing baseball, and with the passionate efforts of the Lansing Legends Baseball Club, there’s hope that the glory days of high school baseball in this vibrant city are on the horizon once again!
