East Ridge High School Girls Cross Country Team Gears Up for Exciting 2025 Season
In the bustling city of Clermont, the countdown to the cross country season has begun! The East Ridge High School girls cross country team kicked off their official practices on July 28, 2025, marking the start of what promises to be an ambitious and thrilling season ahead. They are all set to hit the ground running with their first meet coming up in just a few weeks!
Summer Sprints to Success
This summer has been a busy one for many of the team’s runners, as several took part in a rigorous summer conditioning program throughout June and July. This dedication may very well set the girls up for their best season yet! After an impressive last season, which proudly marked the most successful year in the team’s history with a remarkable “three-peat” as district champions, expectations are high.
Last November, during the Class 4A District 3 Championships held at Osceola High School in Kissimmee, the Knights showcased their prowess by capturing the district title. Not only did they secure a win, but they also advanced to the regional championships for the ninth time in school history. Talk about a winning streak!
Pushing Boundaries and Setting Records
At the recent Class 4A Region 2 Championships in Boca Raton, the Knights achieved a monumental win by securing their very first team regional championship. Rhyen Foley led the charge, clinching the individual regional championship with a stellar time of 18:07. This exceptional performance proved that the team is ready to dominate the competition!
As they head into this season, four of the team’s scoring runners from last year are returning, and they are determined to aim for another district championship, a consecutive regional championship, and their first ever state championship. These dedicated athletes include:
– Rhyen Foley, the team’s leading performer and last season’s MVP, who holds the school’s 5K record at 18:00 and has her eyes set on smashing it this season.
– Veronica Peterson, the second-fastest runner in school history, who is determined to keep her winning momentum going strong.
– Adriana Mustin, ranked as the tenth fastest runner, who has ramped up her summer mileage in hopes of elevating her performance.
– Junior Taylor Walker, the ninth fastest runner, who is filled with excitement for a strong season ahead, alongside Jessie Volz, who aims to build upon her impressive status as the “most improved” runner from last year.
Welcoming New Faces
But that’s not all! The team is also welcoming some new talents to the roster, including juniors Livia Chouinard, Marietta Aguirre Rincon, and Alexa Puello, as well as sophomores like Helen Robertson. Freshmen such as Hortance Sallault, Jamie Volz, Saryna Stewart, and Annabelle Baggot will also be joining the ranks, and they are all eager to contribute to the team’s success.
Ready to Compete
The Knights are preparing to compete in the Class 4A Region 2 District 3 this season, facing off against a total of twenty-one competing teams. The top eight teams will confidently advance to the regional meet, while the top four individual runners from non-qualifying teams will get the opportunity to join as well. Competitors include Boone, Celebration, Cypress Creek, Dr. Phillips, and many others, making for a fiercely competitive district.
Fundraising for Future Success
Not forgetting their off-field strategies, the East Ridge High School boys and girls cross country teams are currently fundraising for travel expenses, meet registration fees, and stylish team apparel. Every little bit helps as they gear up to make this season one to remember!
Mark your calendars! There’s a preseason meet scheduled for August 16, 2025, at Southern Hill Farms in Clermont, with the excitement kicking off at 7:30 AM, starting with the varsity boys race. An exhilarating season lies ahead for the East Ridge Knights, and you won’t want to miss it!
